How to correctly lay carpet: Before beginning, gather your tools and measure the length and width of the space. The current flooring must be carefully prepared before you can start putting your carpet. If you’re replacing flooring that already exists, you must first take out the old flooring. Use a few steps when installing carpet. Prepare the floor and clean your room. Make sure there is no dampness or damage to the floor before placing carpet over concrete. Any cracks should be levelled and sealed with waterproof filler. If the carpet connects two rooms, you might think about removing the doors from their hinges so you can work comfortably on the floor.

Wooden track strips should be installed. Make sure there are no gaps between any strips and the wall, and that there is about a half-inch between each strip. In order for the tacks to firmly hold the carpet, they must be angled toward the wall. Use the cushioned underlayment of the floor, which makes it easy to walk on and prevents your carpet from bunching or ripping. The underlay sections should be laid parallel to the direction in which you intend to lay your carpet. Cut each strip of carpet to its final size before laying it in the space, but remember to leave a 6-inch margin so you have room to trim it afterwards.
